Article and Photos by Madison Gould

Shorts, flip flops, the lake, and sticky watermelon hands - what summer dreams are made of. We wanted to bottle up a bit of that sunshine while we can, which is why we cold-pressed organic watermelon, ginger, and lime in our new Watermelon Limeade. This refreshing, nutrient packed juice is made with organic watermelon from Alvarez Organic Farm here in WA. This means we will squeeze the most out of this melon season, but it won't last long!

Watermelon is such a tasty summer treat, we probably don't think much about it having amazing health benefits! Let us enlighten you a little on the punch this juice packs:

Watermelon - Watermelon is one of the best sources of lycopene, which is a powerful antioxidant and has been shown to reduce risk of cardiovascular disease.

Ginger - Ginger has a long tradition of soothing gastrointestinal distress but also is an anti-inflammatory food and has antioxidant effects as well.

Lime - Lime contains unique flavonoid compounds that have antioxidant and anti-cancer properties. While limes also have flavonoids that have been shown to stop cell division in many cancer cell lines, they are perhaps most interesting for their antibiotic effects.

This seasonal refresher includes organic watermelon right grown right here in Washington State from Alvarez Organic Farm. Meet Hilario Alvarez, the man who started Alvarez farm back in the 80's. After watching a news broadcast on the health hazards of genetically modified foods, a disappointed Hilario Alvarez knew he wanted better for his family, employees, and customers. In 1992 Alvarez Organic Farms became one of the few certified organic producers in Washington State. Alvarez Organic Farms is now one of the largest organic producers in the state of Washington, farming just over 80 acres.

Rest assured, by drinking Watermelon Limeade you are supporting small businesses, small local farmers, and organic and sustainable farming practices. Cheers to a healthy community!
